Effective ways to print and use your logo

February 23rd, 2012

Logo design is an important area of graphic design, and sometimes the most difficult to perfect. The logo, is the image embodying an organization. They are also used to identify and meant to represent companies’ brand different from others in similar markets.

Designing a good logo requires a lot of involvement from the customer. It requires clear idea about the concept and values of the brand as well as an understanding of the consumer. The dream of designing a logo which lasts for 40 years is something we can all aspire to. Rememberthe minimalist design will always be popular and last longer.

Some companies have been using the same logo for years, but 2011 was the year the gradient with a 3D effect becoming commonplace. Everyone has seemingly been adding a gradient to their logo design. It just seems to add an interest to the whole design, giving it a third dimension of sorts and something that looks sleeker and more professional than a simple single-tone logo. These seemed to jump off the website page too.

Give us a call and we can help design your new logo or update an existing one. Here are some of the great logos in use at Hoover Printing.

HP Indigo digital printing technology

August 26th, 2011

Change may not always come easy, but it is often the best way to fulfill customer needs and maintain steady growth. Hoover made the move to digital printing about eight years ago.  We’ve never striven to be the biggest guy on the block, but a few years back we traded in our HP Indigo to the latest 3500 model. It’s always been about serving our customers. We realized we were missing out on addressing customers’ short- to medium-run needs. After evaluating different options, we chose the HP Indigo 3500 press for its short-run capabilities, exceptional quality and fast turnaround times. Also, since the HP Indigo press can output an instant proof on a variety of papers there’s less chance for a mistake or error in the final output; that’s why we excel in producing quality and precise jobs according to the requirements of our customers.

“We knew going digital would help set us apart from our larger competitors. We wanted to be on the front end of new technology instead of trying to catch up.” —John Sindelar

The digital technology is based on HP ElectroInk, which uses small color particles suspended in Imaging Oil that can be attracted or repelled by means of high voltage. The ink forms a very thin and smooth plastic layer on the paper surface. The fact that these particles are so small ensures that the printed image does not mask the underlying surface roughness/gloss of the paper, as can be possible with some toner-based processes, bringing Indigo printing closer in appearance to conventional offset lithography, whereby ink is actually absorbed into the paper.

Its ability to print without films and plates enables Hoover to create personalized short-runs, changing text, images and jobs without having to stop the press. The result is the ability to print personalized short-run Christmas cards, business cards to photobooks. Please take a look at some examples in the SAMPLE link above.

July 21st, 2011

You only have one chance to make a good first impression! Your business card represents you and in many cases is the first impression people get about you.  If it appeals to them by showing quality in design and feel, then it will translate to their impression about quality being important to you and you’re willing to do a quality job for them.  Your business card is also your ambassador which will help them remember you and at the very least stay in touch once in a while.

Letterpress Printing

June 3rd, 2011

Letterpress printing is relief printing of text and/or images. The inking was carried out by rollers which would pass over the face of the type and move out of the way onto a separate ink plate where they would pick up a fresh film of ink for the following sheet. Meanwhile, a sheet of paper was slid against a hinged platen which was then rapidly pressed onto the type and swung back again to have the sheet removed and the next sheet inserted.

This was the normal form of printing text from its invention by Johannes Gutenberg in the mid-15th century until the 19th century and remained in wide use for books and other uses until the second half of the 20th century. It has been revived recently with customers desiring unique and elegant printing for special occasions: Wedding Invitations and accompanying wedding accoutrement, Baby Announcements, Grand Opening Announcements, etc.

Business card options – foil stamping

April 19th, 2011

Business card printing has come a long way and today you can order business cards which are made from not only high quality paper but printed in a myriad of colors too. You might even choose to have your photo printed on them. Why not make a bigger impact by upgrading your business cards to 100-lb. matte, glossy or recycled paper stocks. Foil on business cards (as in foil stamped) is a great option for adding class to an otherwise standard business card. Generally the text or graphics feature is in a foil accent that appears reflective and metallic. Here is a recent sample of a card that truly stands out.
